Testing for Radon

The first step in determining if a home has elevated radon levels is to perform a radon test. Radon is most commonly measured in picoCuries per liter (pCi/L) of air. The EPA and DEP have established a guideline that homes with 4 pCi/L or more of radon should be mitigated. There is no truly “safe” level of radon since lung cancer can result from very low exposures to radon; however the risk decreases as the concentration decreases. Homeowners can test their homes using inexpensive and easy to use test kits or by hiring a licensed measurement technician at Advanced Radon Services. When testing for a real estate transaction, a certified technician must be used.
